Safety and security section (Local travel – Sabah) – the Malaysian authorities have designated the entire eastern portion of Sabah (extending from the town of Kudat in northern Sabah to Tawau district near the border with Indonesia) as the Eastern Sabah Security Zone, and established the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) to co-ordinate security forces' activity in the area; the local authorities have imposed restrictions on travel by water in some coastal districts of eastern Sabah and in the coastal waters off eastern Sabah, including a night-time curfew.

The forest fire which claimed the lives of a large number of people in the Pedrógão Grande area of central Portugal is now under control; however, further fires remain a risk throughout the summer period; forest fires are highly dangerous and unpredictable; check with local authorities if you’re considering travelling to affected areas; take care when visiting or driving through woodland areas and report fires to the emergency services on 112

On 23 June 2017, Saudi security forces disrupted an imminent terrorist attack targeting the Grand Mosque in Makkah; during the security operation, which took place at one site in Jeddah and two sites in Makkah, a suicide bomber injured eleven people, including five members of the security forces.

There have been reports of an increase in holidaymakers being encouraged to submit a claim for personal injury if they have experienced gastric illness during their stay; you can find more information about the action you can take if you have suffered a personal injury on the Citizens Advice website; you should only consider pursuing a complaint or claim if you have genuinely suffered from injury or illness; if you make a false or fraudulent claim, you may face legal proceedings in the UK or Cyprus/Greece.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office no longer advise against travel on Route 13 between Kasi and Phou Kon in Vientiane Province
