On the evening of 27 October, the Bahraini Ministry of Interior reported an attack against police personnel in the vicinity of Sh. Khalifa bin Salman highway near the area of Jidhafs. This led to the death of one policeman and injured eight others. We advise British Nationals to closely follow the guidance and instructions of local authorities.

Latest update: Summary - the second round of the presidential election will take place in Liberia on 7 November 2017; political rallies and large gatherings are expected to become more frequent in the final week of the election campaign, particularly from 3 to 5 November; road blockages and considerable disruption to traffic in Monrovia are likely during this period - you're advised to avoid driving in central Monrovia when rallies are taking place.

Safety and security section (Air travel) - Roberts International Airport (Monrovia) will be closed for most flights on Mondays and Thursdays from 9 October 2017 to 28 February 2018 due to runway rehabilitation works.

Entry requirements section (Medication) - some prescribed and over the counter medicines available in the UK are considered controlled substances in Egypt and can’t be brought into the country without prior permission from Egypt's Ministry of Health; if you arrive in Egypt without this permission and the required documentation, the medication will not be allowed into the country and you may be prosecuted under Egyptian law; if you're travelling with prescription medication you should carry a medical certificate from your GP confirming that the medication has been prescribed for a medical condition.

Safety & security section and summary – the British government cannot provide consular assistance, including any form of assisted departure, to British nationals in Libya; local security situations remain fragile; regular, semi-regular and irregular detention of foreign nationals occurs regularly in all parts of Libya; Chad and Niger have closed their borders with Libya on several occasions in 2017 without warning, in response to the activity of armed groups in the area; Tunisian border crossings are often also inaccessible.

Terrorism section – on 4 October 2017, at least 4 civilians were killed and many wounded in a Daesh suicide bomb attack in Misrata.

Safety & security section (Crime) – there has been an increase in reports of thefts from visitors in night clubs and strip clubs around the old town pedestrian area in Bratislava as a result of drink spiking; you should seek recommendations for bars and clubs from trustworthy sources; keep a close eye on your drinks and only accept drinks that you have seen being prepared. There have been some instances of extortionate charging for drinks or having fraudulent transactions debited against credit/debit cards; you should consider taking sensible precautions to avoid this;
