Travel Safety Round-Up: 21/10/2019

Chile

Curfews will be in place in Santiago from 7.00pm Sunday to 6.00am Monday; Valparaiso, Rancagua, Coquimbo, La Serena from 8.00pm Sunday to 6.00am Monday and Concepcion between 10.00pm Sunday and 6.00am Monday. Updated information on access to Santiago airport,

Ongoing protests across the country and reports that ATMs are running low on cash.

The government declared a State of Emergency following protests in Santiago. This is expected to last for 15 days. During this time there will be a heavy military presence in central Santiago.

All metro stations will be closed on 19 and 20 October. Remain vigilant and avoid protests and demonstrations.

Lebanon

The roads to and from Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport have been blocked by protestors and could become blocked again without notice; This could lead to you being unable to leave the airport if arriving and unable to access the airport if departing.

If travelling to or from Beirut you should contact your airline before departure ensure that you have sufficient mobile phone charge at all times and ensure that you have adequate medical supplies; If you are unable to leave Beirut airport you should remain there until the authorities confirm the access roads are open.

Ecuador

In light of nationwide disruption and demonstrations since 3 October, the FCO now advises against all but essential travel to Ecuador (excluding the Galapagos Islands).

Government curfew in Quito and neighbouring valleys (implemented on 12 October) was lifted on 14 October, however the State of Emergency remains in place till 3 November.
