Will you be travelling locally or internationally this week?
Here are the latest safety updates, to help you make informed decisions for a safer journey.
BOMB INTERCEPTED ON LONDON UNDERGROUND
A 19-year-old has been arrested following a controlled explosion at North Greenwich tube station on Friday. This incident highlights the importance of reporting any suspicious items!
There are unconfirmed reports that an unattended bag "full of wires" was found on the train, and was taken to the driver who then reported it. Never pick up an unattended item, even if you think it's lost property! Report it and move away from the item.
Anti-terror police also evacuated a street in Newton Abbot, Devon and entered a house to investigate. A second device has been found, believed to be linked to the one on the Jubilee Line train on Friday. The Daily Express reports that the second device was found to be "not viable" by local police.
Moorgate Station was evacuated on Sunday after a "suspicious bag" was found on a train. Police investigated and advised that this was actually not a suspicious item, and the station was re-opened.
There is currently a heightened police presence on the London Underground - we're being well looked after! Follow any instructions given by police or station personnel, and report any suspicious items or activity.
NORTHOLT POLICE STAND-OFF
A man was detained following a 3-day "siege" in Northolt, West London - he had barricaded himself in with petrol bombs.
More than 100 people were evacuated from surrounding homes after suspicious items in the home were reported - yet another example of how important reporting can be!
The incident is not thought to be terrorism-related at this time.
We feel it's important to note that while it's unsettling that these incidents are taking place so close to home, these attempts are being intercepted before any harm is done. We stand by our philosophy of being prepared, not scared, and we won't be staying home.
Refugees from the notorious "Jungle" camp are currently being transported out of the Calais area by coach, and there have been reports of tension and violence in the camp.
If you are travelling in France this week, avoid the refugee camp and roads around Calais, and check local news reports for any developments.
The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advises that there may be delays on roads around Calais, so use alternate routes if possible.
