Tropical Storm Nate is forecast to bring hazardous sea and weather conditions to the states of Quintana Roo and Yucatan, including the resort of Cancun, in eastern Mexico from Friday 6 October 2017. The local authorities recommend that all residents and tourists in the affected area remain indoors from 16:00 in Cozumel, from 18:00 in Playa del Carmen and from 20:00 in Cancun and surrounding areas.

Tropical Storm Nate is forecast to bring hazardous sea and weather conditions to the west of Isla de la Juventud, the provinces of Pinar del Rio, Artemisa and Mayabeque, and the city of Havana from 6 October.

Since 16 September 2017, the Malawi police have reported incidents of unrest, property damage, intimidation and violence in the Mount Mulanje area; people not known to the local community are most likely to be the targets of violence. Tensions remain high and have spread to the neighbouring districts of Thyolo, Chiradzulu and Phalombe; you should exercise extreme caution in these areas, especially after dark.

Tropical Storm Nate passed over Nicaragua on 5 October 2017; a yellow alert has been declared across the country; the most affected areas are in Rivas and Bilwi; transport to the tourist destination of Ometepe Island has also been suspended; airports remain open but travel may be disrupted as some international flights have been cancelled; you should follow the advice of local authorities and check with your airline or tour operator before travelling.

The Costa Rican government has declared a state of emergency following Tropical Storm Nate, which passed over north-eastern Costa Rica on 5 October 2017; airports remain open but travel may be disrupted; you should follow the advice of local authorities and check with your airline or tour operator before travelling.

on 5 to 6 October 2017, there were prolonged armed clashes with police in the town of Mocímboa da Praia (between Palma and Pemba) in Cabo Delgado province. Police road blocks have been reported; you should check local and social media for updates before you travel to the area and follow the advice of the local authorities.

Safety and security section and summary – presidential and general elections will take place in Liberia on 10 October 2017; political rallies and large gatherings are expected to become more frequent in the final week of the election campaign, particularly from 6 to 8 October 2017; road blockages and considerable disruption to traffic in Monrovia are likely during this period; you’re advised to avoid driving in central Monrovia when rallies are taking place; travel along the airport road may also be disrupted in the area of SKD Stadium on Saturday 7 October 2017 due to a political rally.

Changes to the areas where the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all or all but essential travel.

Safety & security section (Local travel) – there’s a military checkpoint located approximately 7km south of Tyre on the Naqoura-Tyre-Saida-Beirut highway; to continue your journey further south towards the Israeli border, you’ll need to get a pass from the LAF office in Saida. However, as the office is located in an area of Saida to which the FCO advise against all but essential travel, you should carefully consider whether your need for a pass is essential before you travel to the LAF office.
