Travel Safety Round-Up: 30/4/2018

 

Planning to travel any time soon? Here’s the latest round-up of alerts and updates issued by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). 

Remember that many standard travel insurance policies limit or exclude cover for things like terrorism and natural catastrophes – here are some simple guidelines to help you check. If you’re concerned about terrorism affecting your travel plans, you can top up your travel insurance to cover terrorism – including disinclination to travel* – from just over a fiver per person!**

Eritrea 25 April 2018; 10:59am

The FCO advise against all travel to within 25km of the border with Ethiopia, with the exception of the town of Senafe; and advise against all travel to within 25km of Eritrea’s border with Sudan, with the exception of the town of Tessenei.

Nicaragua 24 April 2018; 10:46pm 

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all but essential travel to Nicaragua.

Cambodia 24 April 2018; 12:41pm

Updated visitor figures for 2017; Safety and security section (Political) – date of national election will be 29 July 2018.

Canada  23 April 2018; 11:25pm 

In an incident in Toronto on 23 April a vehicle struck a number of pedestrians near Yonge and Finch. Local authorities have confirmed that they are dealing with a number of casualties, and an investigation is ongoing. The area surrounding the incident has been sealed off, and disruption to local transport services can be expected. Please follow the advice of the local authorities.
