 Cuba

The central northern coast of Cuba was badly damaged by Hurricane Irma, including the Cayos region and airport, although the government is working to restore services before the main tourist season in November. Havana and many other tourist areas are operating normally. Main roads are clear and most bus services and airports are running as normal.

 Turks and Caicos Islands

Further update as the Turks and Caicos Islands recover from the impact of Hurricanes Irma and Maria; services in Providenciales are returning to normal; removal of information about the UK hotline number.

 Cameroon

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all but essential travel to the city of Buea in the south west region of Cameroon.

There is the potential for unrest in the north west and south west regions as large scale protests and marches continue; on 22 September 2017, several marches took place across towns and villages in the two regions; some have turned violent and protestors were killed.

Transport restrictions, including the movement of people apply in the south west region until 2 October 2017; there have been recent explosions in Bamenda, one of which resulted in injuries.

As of 6pm local time on 29 September 2017, the Federal Government of Iraq has suspended international flights to and from Erbil and Sulaymaniyah airports; you’ll now need to transit through other airports to leave Iraq; according to Iraqi law, you must get a visa before you travel.

They may occur with little or no warning and even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can escalate and turn confrontational; you should exercise caution if you’re in the vicinity. Demonstrations may also cause some disruption and delays to transport services.

 Updated information and advice on the volcanic alert level for the Mount Agung volcano in north-east Bali, which remains at level 4, the highest level possible; level 4 indicates that an eruption is possible within 24 hours.

 Democratic Republic of the Congo

There are reports of serious clashes between Congolese Armed Forces and militia groups around Uvira in South Kivu Province. The FCO advises against all travel to this region.

Safety and security section and summary – on 21 September 2017, the local authorities extended the State of Emergency for 14 days and a curfew remains in force from 8pm to 6am; some sea ports are now open and a small number of ferry services have begun to resume; addition of contact numbers for local hospitals and the local police; the 911 number is currently not functional.

Natural disasters section and summary – following a period of volcanic activity in Vanuatu, Mount Manaro on Ambae Island has erupted and the ni-Vanuatu alert level has been raised to the second highest level (level 4); a compulsory evacuation of the island has commenced; lower level volcanic activity has also been reported in Malampa Province and Lopevi Island; if you’re in any of these areas, you should follow the advice of the local authorities; updated information on the Vanuatu government’s volcanic activity alert scale, which now has 6 levels.
