Following clashes with the police in Darjeeling on 12 June 2017, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha has called for an indefinite shutdown of state government and Gorkhaland Territorial Administration offices; there are ongoing instances of violence and arson in Darjeeling and Kalimpong; if you’re planning to travel in or through the Darjeeling hills, monitor local media, follow the advice of the local authorities, and keep in touch with your travel company.

Natural disasters section – heavy monsoon rains continue to affect the state of Assam and nearby areas; if you’re travelling to or in the north-east of India, monitor local and international weather updates from the Indian Meteorological Department and follow the advice of local authorities and your travel company.

On 5 July 2017, the President of Zambia issued a constitutional declaration relating to a threatened emergency; the declaration widens the powers of government and the police to preserve public security; there’s no apparent increased threat to British nationals, but you should comply with guidance and instructions given by the local authorities, and avoid any political rallies, demonstrations, or large gatherings.

Major terrorist attacks took place in Lahore in February and March 2017; at the present time, you should exercise particular caution in travelling to and around Lahore; this includes the major international hotels, public areas including parks, shopping malls, religious sites and law enforcement facilities;

British High Commission staff based in Lahore have been advised to avoid these locations for the time being; for practical reasons, staff based elsewhere in Pakistan have been advised not to travel to Lahore for the time being.
